I am a UX/UI designer
who wants to help design simple and effective solutions for users' wants and needs. From bartending to pastry chef; Docent to art teacher; photographer to tour guide. I have been drawn to professions where listening and gaining empathy are key to success.
Hailing from Nebraska I originally moved to New York and haven't looked back. My first job was working at a high-end photo booth company working with large-scale clients such as Nike, Facebook, and celebrities. Right out of the gate this gave me the confidence to think big, manage large-scale clients, and have some great experiences. From there I moved on to working as a production manager at Milk Bar Bakery. This is where I really cut my teeth on creating simple solutions for large-scale problems. Making cakes is a great way to spend the days, but when you need to produce 400+ cakes a day you need an easy-to-follow system and plan. In my spare time, I also give family tours of the MET. Figuring out what the families want to see, learn, and experience than creating a custom tour for them is one of my biggest joys.
After looking back at what aspects I have enjoyed throughout my career I noticed a common thread. I enjoyed helping people solve problems by gaining empathy and understanding their personal needs. That is what makes me a strong designer, teacher, and even bartender and ultimately lead me to User Experience Design. Every person or business is unique and has its own set of needs, wants, and pain points. It is my job to listen and help create a solution tailored to meet those needs and wants.
